Mrs. Gayla Joyce Putman

November 13, 1936 - January 27, 2012

Gayla Joyce Putman

Born in Tennessee, Gayla Joyce Putman brought her southern charm and family to Chicago in the late 50’s. While pursuing a successful 30 year banking career, during which she organized the “Do-ers Club” for, what is now, US Bank, “Joyce” also delighted many with her skills as a gifted artist, painter and seamstress. Her “Southern Belle” sense of fashion (Which did NOT include the love of big hair!) and manners were lifelong priorities to be appreciated and shared with family and friends. Always interested in exploring her family’s genealogy, “Joyce” was one of the early adopters of Facebook. “Joyce” defined “on the go” and “been there, done that,” sometimes moving at a pace her family, friends and even doctors found hard to keep up with. Quick also described her wit which could quickly morph into a wonderfully wicked sense of humor accompanied by a sly smile. A woman who was never afraid to share her opinion, but with a gentle hand, “Joyce” was also never afraid to share her warmth and love which, along with her strength, will be missed. Along with her loving husband of 57 years, John, her only child and best friend, Johnnie, son-in-law, Steve, she leaves her sisters in spirit, Linda, Minerva, Wilma and Gale and was mother in heart to Donna, Levonne and Sue. Along with her family and friends “Joyce” loved her new church, shopping, collecting recipes, baking, going out to eat, all kinds of music, photography, sunsets and animals.
